You know that feeling when you revisit a place again after a bunch of time has passed? Maybe it's just that you're experiencing it at a different time in the year, but you notice that even though it's still where it is, it's not quite what it was. This EP comes from that kind of place.

Working on this EP over the last several years, I was reminded of all the trips I'd take up the 5 to visit family in The Bay. It's mostly farm land and livestock up that way, but there are genuine moments of beauty when the sun sets through a thick cloud formation, or when interesting shapes of light carve out the landscape toward the horizon.

There's this one spot in particular that I always watched for. It's a place where two hills meet in a kind of shallow ravine that snakes past some a thinned-out tree. When the light's just right, it's captivating. I've made trips up north at practically every possible time of the year by this point, but even though the beauty of that spot changes with the seasons and through the years, it's still a kind of a marker for me.

With this project, I wanted to put down a marker of my own -- a cairn -- to mark a time in my life and my music. It's a time and a place I hope to remember, even as seasons come and go, and I continue to grow as an artist and a person.
